Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is soothing, gentle, and nurturing, and the most common type of massage, and has been used in healing therapies since the early 19th century. The therapist uses light to medium pressure to assist in relaxation. This type of massage can help reduce emotional and physical stress, in addition to shortening the recovery time from muscular strain by flushing the tissues of metabolic wastes. It is suggested as part of a regular program for stress management.

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is used to release chronic muscle tension through slower strokes and more direct deep pressure or friction on contracted muscles, tendons, and fascia. Deep tissue massage usually focuses on more specific areas and may cause some soreness during or right after the massage. It provides relief for chronic tension and acute muscle spasms.

Hot Stone Massage

Hot stone massage is a specialty massage that uses smooth, water-treated, hot stones. Theheat from the stones penetrates deeply to help loosen and soothe tight muscles, allowing the therapist to more easily perform deep tissue manipulations, without using deep pressure, making this type of massage especially beneficial for those with fibromyalgia. Hot stone massage is also suited to people who tend to feel chilly or who have cold feet, and for people who have muscle tension but prefer a lighter massage. The warmth of the hot stones improves circulation and calms the nervous system.

Pregnancy Massage/Prenatal Massage (Pre and Postpartum)

Prenatal massage is recommended for the second and third trimester. It is a great way to relieve the stresses that result from the rapid and profound physical and mental changes that occur during pregnancy. Pregnancy massage is designed to relieve aches in the back, neck, hips, and legs. We recommend this type of massage be done in a sideline position, which we feel is the optimal position for the health and safety of the mother-to-be, and baby. Client must be at least 12 weeks along to receive a pregnancy massage.

Remedial massage therapy is a kind of physical therapy that is used to address issues of pain and discomfort in the body, resulting from truly injured muscles. In remedial massage therapy, issues related to the body are the focus of the treatment. Remedial massage therapy may, for example, work to treat scar tissue in and surrounding muscles or to treat muscular imbalances. This kind of therapy is often used in tandem with other kinds of physical therapies and treatments as prescribed by the patient’s doctor.

Cranial-Sacral Therapy (CST)

Cranio-Sacral Therapy, or CST, is a gentle, hands-on manipulation of the physiological body system called the cranio-sacral system. This system is comprised of the soft tissue and bones of the cranium (or head), the spine and the pelvis. When blockages occur in spinal fluid, an unharmonious balance in the body can occur, resulting in muscle and joint strain, emotional disturbances and the improper operation of the body’s organs and central nervous system. Practitioners believe that when the spinal fl uid is naturally allowed to move freely around the body, the central nervous system and the body’s other major organs and muscles will be in balance, thereby increasing the prevention of sickness and injury.
